care bear project...
This project had it's genesis in having to restock the children's room at Boksburg Magistrate's Court. Concern was expressed by one of the Magistrates that the children were "stealing" toys from the children's room. In order to decriminalize this activity, MRR proposed that each child be allowed to remove from the children's room a toy of their choosing. It now became necessary to continue the restocking process of the children's room.
At the same time, MRR was assisting with activities within homes for the aged on the East Rand. In order to dovetail these activities, with meeting the needs of the children, MRR began a project of purchasing wool for the ladies of these institutions who then knit soft toys to enable the replenishment of the children's room.
The infusions of the knitting ladies exceeded all expectation. Teddy bears were, and continued to be tuned out at an astonishing rate. This has lead to the Care Bare Project in which every child in Boksburg or Benoni who attends Court, or experiences a trauma relating to abuse or otherwise, is handed a teddy bear.
MRR continues to stock Kids Haven, Itemba Victim Support Centre, Kidz Clinic, Lifeline, FAMSA and Boksburg Child Welfare Association.
